Is All Mold Toxic?

The good news is that all mold isn’t toxic. Just because you see mold, you don’t need to get worried. You should get your home tested to see what type of mold is there, so you do know if your health is at risk.

What Causes Mold?

If you live in a damp environment and you notice there is a lot of sweat on your windows, your windows will likely have mold. Damp environments are the perfect place for mold to hang out.

Mold reproduces by air spores and can grow on any surface. When the mold is on your window, it is easier to see it, which means you’ll likely be able to take care of it sooner than mold on your walls or in the attic.

Cleaning Your Windows

Before cleaning mold, prepare yourself by putting on safety gloves, a mask, and safety glasses. You don’t want to breathe in the mold — even if it’s been deemed non-toxic.

Use a dry cloth to wipe the windows before putting detergent and water on a cloth and wiping the window. If there is a lot of mold on the windows, you might want to use paper towels, so you don’t have to throw away a bunch of clothes.

You may find that the mold is rather stubborn. If you come up against stubborn mold, you can use a scraper to loosen the mold, so you can clean it off.

After you’ve gotten most of the mold off the window clean, it’s time to bring in the bleach. Put about a 1/2 cup of bleach in a gallon of water and use a cloth to scrub down the window and window frames. If you need any mold around the window, you need to scrub that down as well.

Once you’ve finished cleaning the window, get clean water and make sure all the bleach is off the window. If you have too much bleach smell in your home, it could cause health problems as well.
