5 Easy Tips for Minimalist Living in 2019

January 18, 2019

They say “new year, new you,” right? Then check out these 5 tips for minimalist living that will transform your life.

Less really is more: the minimalism lifestyle has been trending in the U.S. during the past few years, driven by millennials.

Don’t know what minimalism is? It’s the art of living with less material things.

Many minimalists report experiencing greater happiness after parting with possessions, which is why you may want to give this lifestyle a try. Here are five easy tips to help you achieve minimalist living in 2019.

1.Clear the Clutter

The first step towards achieving a minimalist lifestyle is to get rid of anything you no longer use or need. Clear your closets and clothing storage bins. If you haven’t worn anything in a year, chances are you’ll never wear it.

It’s not just clothing you can purge, but just about anything else that is just collecting space such as books, knick-knacks, old appliances, and magazines. You can look into donating items to charities such as Big Brother Big Sister. Anything else can be given away, sold, recycled, or simply tossed.

2.Strive for Quality Over Quantity

Does anyone really need 20 pairs of jeans, especially if they’re not the best quality? It’s better to invest in two or three pairs that are high quality and will last a long time (and take up less space in the closet.)

And even if you don’t have a lot of extra cash, there are still ways of living luxuriously on a budget.

3.Pair Down Furniture

Minimalism means living with less furniture so that your home looks cleaner and more spacious. If you can’t part with certain pieces, invest in furniture that features sneaky storage areas.

It could be a chair with a compartment under the seat or drawers for the kitchen that hides pint-sized appliances.

4.Use Your Local Library or an E-Reader

If you’ve previously purchased and practically hoarded books and DVDs, give your local library a try.

You’ll be pressured to read books in a timely manner and return them by your due date, and your living
space will not become cluttered.

You can also invest in a Kindle or other e-reader and get a Netflix account. These tactics will prevent purchased books and movies from piling up and taking up space.

5.Turn Down Hand-Me-Downs

Unless it’s an item you absolutely love, don’t accept any hand-me-downs or items from loved ones and friends. They will only add clutter to your home.

Minimalism Living Helps Save Money

One of the side effects from minimalist living is you’re going to end up with a lot more cash because you’re spending as much of it. Why not do something to make it grow, like putting it into a savings or 401K account? The Blooom 401K is a great option for growing your extra money.
